On October 14, the awarding ceremony of the Award for Innovation of and Contribution to Chinese Standards was held in Beijing. CEI won the Organization Award and four standards including Connecting Devices for Conductive Charging of Electric Automobile GB/T 20234.1-2011, Part 1: General Requirements won the Second Prize for Project Award.

The “Award for Innovation of and Contribution to Chinese Standards” was granted by panel experts of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China and Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China. It is the top national award in standardization field. The Organization Prize and Individual Prize were added in the Award in 2013 to award organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to such aspects as standardization R&D, standardization education, formulation and revision of standards, standard implementation and international standardization. This year witnessed CEI’s application for the Organization Award for the Innovation of and Contribution to Chinese Standards for the first time. It won this Prize as being acknowledged by panel experts by virtue of its extraordinary standardization R&D achievements in multiple fields such as environmental adaptability, safety of electric apparatus, new energy automobile and environmental-friendly manufacturing, and results of standard project accumulated in the field of electric apparatus for years, which fully showcases the systematic and advanced standardization work of CEI, providing experience for winning national standardization awards in the future.

Since 1958, CEI led the establishment of several first standards in multiple fields in Chinese electric apparatus industry including GB 1002-67, the first standard for plug and socket; GB4706.1-84, the first standard for household appliances; and GB 2423.1-81, the first standard for environmental technology. It is noticeable that in 2013, Derek Johns, a senior expert and chairman of IEC/TC61 Technical Committee of Household Appliance came to CEI for research on household appliance technology and standards; CEI also worked as the head of the IEC/TC61WG6 work team, and brought up the international standard of electric clipper. At present, CEI undertakes a secretariat of an international technical committee (IEC/SC32C), a management body of domestic technologies of 15 technical committees of International Electrotechnical Commission, 12 secretariats of Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (including 5 major standard committees) and 1 secretariat of a provincial standard committee.
